Martha Stewart's Living...In the Big House!

Martha Stewart guilty of conspiracy, obstruction of justice and 2 counts of providing false statements

So, a jury decided that Martha's skills as a designer are just the thing that the penal system needs to improve its image. A jury, I’m assuming not of her peers, found the Jersey Girl turned model turned broker turned international symbol of taste and refinement guilty of conspiracy, obstruction of justice and 2 counts of providing false statements. This is a pretty substantial victory for the prosecutors in that the case represents one of the highest profile convictions in recent SEC history.

I am sorry to see Martha strung up by her pre-labor day white pumps, being that she is still just a small fry in the big corporate picture. Let’s see the Justice Department go after other corporate criminals with the same vim and vigor. Unfortunately for Martha, her ego and tastefully adorned sense of self continually got the best of her throughout the whole process. The voices in my head tell me that while it is true that some very smart people do very stupid things, Martha being a straight-A student and former broker was dumb enough to believe that she was above the law.

Quoth the material maven, “I am obviously distressed by the jury’s verdict but I continue to take comfort in knowing that I have done nothing wrong and that I have the enduring support of my family and friends.” And if during your brief stay in the joint you meet that special someone, you can always get married. Good luck Martha.
